My Review

A Vietnam-scarred insomniac drifts through the neon gutters of ’70s New York, convinced the only cure for the city’s rot is a bullet. What begins as a lonely cabbie’s diary cruising at night, scribbling in his journal, failing at romance , mutates into a fever dream of violence. Travis Bickle’s slow descent isn’t loud, it’s a quiet corrosion, measured in the grime on his windshield and the lies he tells himself. When the final bloodbath arrives, the horror isn’t that he survives , it’s that the city applauds him for it. Scorsese turns revenge into a mirror: the more Travis tries to clean the streets, the more we see how filthy everything else is.

Walton's self imposed isolation preferable to getting along with the scum around him. One day...

Robert De Niro is outstanding in this dark and gritty depiction of former marine "Travis Bickle". He spends his time, alone, driving his cab at night then watching seedy movies during the day. This relentless cycle is broken when he takes a shine to "Betsy" (Cybill Shepherd), a campaign worker for a would be US Presidential candidate. There is a glimmer of hope for him, as she agrees to go out...
